Balancing the claim process for the benefit of the insured

Gary Baca, Owner

Gary comes from an extensive background of life experience and skills that are conducive to Public Adjusting. Raised as the son of an American Diplomat, he spent his entire childhood living abroad. This experience gave him a rich understanding of cultural differences and fluency is Spanish and Portuguese. This ability has remained a valuable asset in serving the large Hispanic and multi-cultural community he encounters in Public Adjusting.

Prior to Public Adjusting, his work was concentrated in the fields of Management, customer service, directing, and business and management consulting. This all led to the opportunity of Public Adjusting. It was the best of all worlds, involving all the acquired analytical skills, diplomatic strategies, management skills, and organizational skills that combined blended into being a Public Adjuster.

Gary has worked extensively in the Public Adjusting field while based in the Los Angeles area. Since entering the field he has been involved in hundreds of claims ranging from $20,000.00 to over $20,000,000.00 in damages.

Gary is also experienced in disasters such as Hurricane Ike in Texas in 2008. With the successful outcome of that experience he obtained Public Adjusting Licenses in many other states that suffer from Hurricanes and Tropical Storms and is on a strong referral basis for that service.

As the owner of Counter Point Public Adjusting, it was vital to put together a team that has a similar drive and passion for this field and a team that could interface in the world of Public Adjusting in a multi-cultural society as is California. The company has the unique ability of having staff that speak Spanish, Portuguese, Mandarin and Cantonese, Armenian, and Russian. The company is training and developing staff that is fluent in other languages such as Vietnamese, Cambodian, and Filipino.

The purpose of Counterpoint is to eliminate the burden of the insurance claims process. To turn the process from what is predictable to what is possible in favor of the insured, the main goal being to return our clients to an equal or better quality of life through our efforts.

Cyndi Pianka, Managing Director

Cyndi was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana.  Her father, who was a major influence in her life, was a designer and an architect of commercial properties.

After completing school at LSU, she took on the challenge of becoming the first successful female marketer in the Yellow Pages at the time. Cyndi then ventured into radio and quickly rose to the top in sales for the top radio station at that time. Cyndi then ventured into the male dominated world as an owner of a large limousine company based in New Orleans for 12 years.

Cyndi met Gary through his consulting work in 2001 and they have been together ever since.

Cyndi’s world came to an end with the arrival of Hurricane Katrina in 2005. After evacuating last minute, with only a handful of clothes and her dog, she lost her home and business in a matter of hours. Gary convinced her to relocate to California and join him in the field of Public Adjusting and a match was made to form an essential team.

Cyndi brings a passion for helping people get through the loss of property because she suffered it herself. She has first-hand experience for what people and businesses go through after a loss.  With the gift that Cyndi has for being a survivor and her extensive background in business and client support, she adds a missing ingredient to the industry.

Cyndi runs the Counter Point office managing the vast amount of pieces that make up a settlement on a loss. She is the person that keeps things moving forward for the clients, keeps everyone informed of what needs to be done and what has been done. If it needs to happen-she will make it happen.

Our Support Personnel

Public Adjusting is a service, a valuable and worthwhile one at that, when its principals are applied with a focus on making a difference for the client.

Counter Point is a “new” company, but NOT new to the industry. The founding member has been in the industry since 2004. We are experienced former: solicitors, staff, resident adjusters, contractors, engineers, clients, and members of the community dedicated to one cause, working as a team to provide a valuable, worthwhile service to those who are suffering a loss to their property.

Each member of our group has a track record and has participated in the process of adjusting claims from years to decades. Each member has their own important part to contribute whether it’s the ability to adjust, construction experience, engineering knowledge, contents evaluation, and even firsthand loss experience ( as in former loss victim). As well we have vast language and multi-cultural experience and members with ability to assist those from other countries and cultures.

We are not alone in our work or endeavors. We have at our side when needed consultants and specialists in architecture, engineering, estimating, construction, testing, abatement, demolition, contents, inventory, pack out, storage, accounting, business interruption, housing, appraisal, and legal interpretation and defense.

We have selected the best of this support industry, companies and individuals whose principles of service are the same as ours and will do the work to document the loss accurately and fully for the benefit of the client.
